LNG is NOT necessary.
- California’s demand for natural gas is decreasing.
- U.S. natural gas reserves are at a 20-year high thanks to better technology.
North America has enough stored natural gas to meet California’s declining needs for the next several decades - we don’t need to import LNG from Australia. California needs to focus attention on developing renewable energy sources available within the state, NOT on foreign fuel. Lt. Governor Garamendi rejected an LNG project proposal near Oxnard in 2007 because need for LNG is doubtful - decision makers in Long Beach refused LNG for the same reason.
